Crypto miner HIVE Blockchain Technologies has issued a warning against multiple imposter groups pretending to be HIVE to “defraud individuals”.
According to a post on its website, some people have already been targeted and affected by these groups, having lost money to supposed investments.
“Some of these impersonator groups appear to promise large returns on investment and are not legitimate. Other impostors are promoting investment through an app. We are not associated with any of these activities,” HIVE commented in the post.
The statement on the website serves as not only a warning to HIVE investors, but also provides advice and details the company’s planned response to this illicit activity.
Firstly, the post explicitly states that HIVE “only mines cryptocurrency” and that it does not offer trading or investment management services.
The company then clarified its official web domain and social media channels.
In terms of a response, HIVE has reported the bad actors’ websites to Google Safe Browsing.
Moreover, the firm announced it plans to take legal action: “We are taking legal action against the owners of these imposter websites in Vancouver court, which we will be part of an attempt to revoke their web hosting and domain name registration. We will submit a complaint through the ICANN contractual compliance system.”
The statement also asks that any sites or social media accounts found impersonating HIVE be reported on the platform and made aware to HIVE at info@hiveblockchain.com.
