Meta-owned Instagram is adding support for users to show off their non-fungible tokens (NFTs) from a number of the most popular blockchain networks.
In much the same vein as Twitter’s NFT integration late last year, users will be able to select their NFTs as display pictures, post their NFTs, and share them with their followers.
However, CoinDesk has confirmed that Instagram users will not be charged a fee for this service as Twitter originally did following its project’s launch in January this year.
The planned integration by Instagram will support a number of blockchains – including Ethereum, Solana, Polygon, and Flow – although how many will be available at launch remains to be seen.
CoinDesk reports that the pilot, which will feature a small group of US-based NFT experts and influencers at first, should be expected week beginning May 9.
“Instagram intends to support widely used crypto wallets such as MetaMask. Plugging in their wallets, users will be able to prove NFT ownership, showcase them on their profiles and tag the creators who made them,” CoinDesk added.
With over one billion active monthly users, Instagram tapping into NFTs could spell a watershed moment for the technology in terms of adoption.
