From Jack Dorsey’s first tweet to the Beeple digital artwork sold by Christie’s, the non-fungible token (NFT) market has exploded in recent weeks. In the first of a new series, The Block takes a look at the past week’s developments in the budding NFT industry.
Circle launches its NFT payments solution
Global fintech firm Circle, which provides payments and treasury infrastructure for internet-based businesses, has announced a payments solution for NFT marketplaces and stores that enables them to accept both credit card and crypto payments to attract more mainstream audience adoption. Circle anticipates their solution will simplify the complexity of NFT transactions and they intend to release further payment support, storage options, and treasury services for NFTs in the coming months.
Klaytn to be supported on OpenSea
Klaytn, the blockchain project of Korean Internet giant, Kakao, is to become the first public blockchain platform after Ethereum to be supported by OpenSea, the world’s largest marketplace for NFTs. Integration with OpenSea will allow Klaytn-powered NFTs, with peer-to-peer trading expected to be implemented by the end of June. Users will be able to sync their OpenSea accounts with the Klaytn wallet to buy or sell NFTs with their KLAY token.
Nifty’s – the first NFT-focused social media platform
With pre-seed round investments from Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban, co-founder of Ethereum and CEO of ConsenSys Joseph Lubin, and Future Positive which is led by co-founder of Twitter Biz Stone, Nifty’s hopes to bring a new social media experience to the NFT industry. The platform will allow members to create, collect, discover, and curate digital art and other collectibles from across the NFT marketplace. Nifty’s is led by co-founder and CEO Jeff Marsilio, former SVP of new media at the NBA, where he led the league’s digital licensing business and the NFT phenomenon ‘NBA Top Shot.’
Crowdcreate to host NFT Global Conference on 30 March
Marketing agency Crowdcreate is hosting the NFT Global Conference on 30 March with some of the most successful startup founders, investors, artists, and celebrities in the NFT industry. Panelists joining the one day event include Immutable CEO James Ferguson, SuperRare.co CEO John Crain, Vanessa Grellet of Consensys, and two hundred other NFT thought leaders. The conference is free to attend and will include topics such as technology that is supporting the NFT industry, barriers to wider adoption, and the future of NFTs.
