A new Amazon job posting for a “digital currency and blockchain product lead” further solidifies speculation that the e-commerce giant is planning to bring its payments system into the crypto age.
The position, based at Amazon’s headquarters in Seattle, will be part of the company’s payments acceptance and experience team.
The job posting, which calls for “an experienced product leader to develop Amazon’s digital currency and blockchain strategy and product roadmap,” suggests the company has long-term plans in mind for its future role within these sectors.
“You will leverage your domain expertise in blockchain, distributed ledger, central bank digital currencies and cryptocurrency to develop the case for the capabilities, which should be developed, drive overall vision and product strategy, and gain leadership buy-in and investment for new capabilities,” the posting says.
Back in February, a series of Amazon job postings revealed a digital currency project was being prepped for launch in Mexico that would “enable customers to convert their cash into digital currency” to “shop for goods or enjoy services like Prime Video.”
After a period of relative hush, this new posting’s less than ambiguous requirements strongly suggests Amazon is well underway with it’s plans for a digital currency.
