Since launching in December 2019 in partnership with Tencent, GEF has accepted representatives from over 55 countries, along with International Sporting Federations including theWorld Squash Federation, the International Tennis Federation, and World Taekwondo.

Paula Prunty, Board Member of Ireland Esports, shared her excitement in a release, saying: “A lot of work has gone on behind the scenes to ensure that Ireland has a governance structure in place for esports and this announcement is another step in that direction. We are looking forward to developing this exciting partnership and creating opportunities for Irish representation at GEF World Championships.”

The Global Esports Federation is quickly establishing itself as a central hub for government-sanctioned esports growth. Recent partnerships include Organización Deportiva Suramericana (ODESUR) to develop an esports strategy for South America and the Olympic Council of Asia.

Esports Insider says: We expect to see many more of these announcements as additional esports organisations become GEF members. It remains to be seen whether the GEF’s efforts will, in fact, unify and drive efforts across the world compared to its rival, International Esports Federation (IESF). Will competition between the two groups advance the industry faster?
