Twitch launches dedicated directory for esports

Amazon-owned live streaming platform Twitch has launched a dedicated directory for esports tournaments, teams, and players.

The hub is said to make “the world of esports streaming more intuitive and accessible.”

Twitch’s newly-formed esports section includes a directory that lists live tournaments, a list of live players who are signed to professional organisations, personalised recommendations based on users’ viewing history, and a sub-directory that compiles active tournaments and leagues.

Earlier this week, Twitch entered a three-year deal with ESL and DreamHack that will see it act as the exclusive global digital partner for the tournament organiser’s ‘major’ events – including ESL Pro Tour, ESL Pro League, IEM, DreamHack Masters, and DreamHack Open.

Last November, San Francisco-based esports startup Juked launched its open beta – aggregating broadcasts of esports competitions from Twitch, Mixer, and other streaming platforms. As it has grown, the platform now includes resources such as an esports calendar with reminders and VODs. Last week, Popdog launched with a similar concept to Juked. 

Esports Insider says: It’s about damn time. Esports has played a big part in Twitch reaching its current status and obtaining the hold it has on the live streaming business. It’s an interesting time with both Juked and Popdog already vying to be the top dog as an esports broadcast aggregator; we imagine this competition will push such platforms to develop new and helpful resources.
