DAZN acquires Brazilian broadcast rights to BLAST Premier

Over-the-top subscription streaming service DAZN has acquired the Brazilian broadcast rights to BLAST Premier.

The Counter-Strike: Global Offensive circuit to finished the first of three weekends as part of its Spring Series in London, UK.

Despite nabbing the rights to broadcast the tournament series throughout 2020, DAZN is only providing an English-language stream of the action. Financial terms of the deal have not been disclosed at the time of writing.

BLAST has similar deals in place with Winstrike and TV 2 Denmark, covering the CIS region and Denmark respectively. The first weekend of London’s Spring Series was broadcast on a more general basis through both Twitch and YouTube.

The BLAST Premier circuit has a total annual prize pool of $4.25 million (£3.4 million). In 2020, it’ll comprise of two season finals and a global final where the winning team will take home $500,000 (£399,807.50) and $1,000,000 (£799,615) respectively.

100 Thieves, Astralis, Complexity Gaming, Evil Geniuses, FaZe Clan, G2 Esports, MIBR, Natus Vincere, Ninjas in Pyjamas, OG, Team Liquid, and Team Vitality are all competing in BLAST Premier during its inaugural season.

Esports Insider says: DAZN is becoming an increasingly-important name in the world of traditional sports when it comes to streaming and broadcasting. With that in mind, this seems like a solid move for both BLAST and esports at large. Having only English narration may be a slight setback, however.
